Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) under NHM, is the main key to provide health services to those who have no limited access to basic health care services due to lack of transportation. The main objective is to take healthcare to the doorsteps of people particularly in rural , remote, difficult, under-served and unreached areas. All drugs and laboratory investigation are provided free of cost through MMU.
The outreach clinic programme is set with the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer(CMO) and Senior Medical Officer (SMO). In Kolasib district, mostly six to ten villages are visited during one month. There is usually one vehicle for transportation. The recommended human resource per MMU is one medical officer, one laboratory technician, one nurse, one pharmacist cum administrative assistant and one driver cum support staff.
