Bairabi PHC

Primary Health Centre (PHC), Bairabi is one of the health facilities under Chief Medical Officer, Kolasib, Mizoram. The facility was  established in 1991, and is located at Zohlun veng, Bairabi North area, 35 kms away from district capital, Kolasib, towards the north-west side of Kolasib.

The PHC was started functioning with one doctor, one Pharmacist, one staff nurse and 4 group D staffs. It was started in pucca house till 2007, and a new building was constructed in 2008 and completed in 2010.

The first OPD was started on 10th, January, 1991, the first patient was admitted in 1994 and delivery also conducted since this year.

Since 1991, 13 doctors and 23 staff nurses were posted in this facility. Here is the list of doctors posted in this PHC, in chronological order.

Area & Population Covered:

The facility covered 6 villages (Bairabi, Pangbalkawn, Meidum, Rajdali, Awrpuara Veng and S. Chhimluang) with total population8273, and 1596 houses/families. (as on Population Survey, March, 2022)

The facility has 10 ASHAs in 5 different villages. &5 VHSNC (Bairabi I & II, Meidum, Pangbalkawn, S. Chhimluang)

Out of these villages, 3 villages (Rajdali, Awrpuara Veng and S. Chhimluang) are categorized into High Risk Area (HRA) due to difficulty in reaching these places and most people in these villages are Bru, and most of them are illiterate.

Rajdali is under Bairabi Sub Centre, and approximately 8 kms from Bairabi. This village is under administration of Hortoki V/C, which is under the area of Kawnpui PHC. The place is very difficult to reach especially during rainy season.

Awrpuara Veng and S. Chhimluang villages are under administration of Bairabi North VC. 

Awrpuara veng is covered by Bairabi Sub Centre. It is located at the hill top, near Zophai, Assam border, and is approximately 6 kms away from Bairabi.

S. Chhimluang is under Pangbalkawn HWC. It also located at the hill top. It can be reach only through Pangbalkawn village, and is 17 kms from Bairabi through Pangbalkawn.

Sub Centres/Health & Wellness Centre

The facility has two sub health facilities – Sub Centre at Bairabi and Health & Wellness Centre at Pangbalkawn.

a)    Bairabi Sub Centre: 

It is established in 1976, and is covered by Kolasib Main Centre at that time. 

The facility covered 3 villages – Bairabi, Rajdali and Awrpuara Veng. Under this facility there are 6 ASHAs: 5 ASHAs in Bairabi & one ASHA in Rajdali. 

Only one Health Worker (F) is posting at present.

Services provided are : 1. Antenatal Check up (ANC), 2. Child Tracking, 3. Immunisation, 4. Healthcare Registration, 5. Family Planning & Counselling, 6. Deworming, 7. Vector Borne Diseases Control

b)    Heath & Wellness Centre, Pangbalkawn :

This facility was inaugurated in the year 1986. It functioned as health Sub Centre, and is upgraded to Health & Wellness Centre in 2020.It is a delivery centre since 2016.

The facility covered 3 villages – Pangbalkawn, Meidum and S. Chhimluang. There are 4 ASHAs under this facility – 2 in Pangbalkawn, and one each in Meidum and S. Chhimluang.

Services provided in the facility are: 1. Emergency & First Aid, 2. Mother &Child Check up (ANC & Child Tracking), 3. Free delivery & free transportation, 4. Healthcare Registration, 5. NCD Screening, 6. Immunisation, 7. Family Planning & Contraception, 8. ENT, Oral & Eye Care, 9. Adolescent Health, 10. Wellness Activities, 11. Teleconsultation. 12. Deworming, 13. Vector Borne Disease Control
